Sun     A Boon or A Bane ?

Let us understand and appreciate some facts about Sun
  • Sun is the only source of light radiation
  • The light radiation can be divided into two distinct  parts
  • The visible radiation
  • The invisible radiation
  • It is the radiation that allows so many processes on the earth some of which are
beneficial and the others are detrimental.
And this is how the sun acts like a boon and at the same time can be a bane too.

Some of the beneficial processes are

  • Photosynthesis in plants
  • Vitamin D synthesis in our body
  • Regulation of Weather patterns

While the negative effects are
  • Photo sensitivity reactions
  • Tanning
  • Heat Strokes
  • Sun burns
  • Sunscreen is a cream or lotion which contains certain chemicals which deflect the sunrays or absorb them so that the skin is protected from the harmful effects of exposure to the UV Rays. According to a recently published article in the Indian Journal of Dermatology, Venereology, and Leprology, the ideal choice of sunscreens are those that effectively block both UVB and UVA rays, which is done with an SPF of 30 or greater. Sunscreen lotions are highly recommended by Indian dermatologists.
